Ask any of the grandchildren and they will tell you that Crazy Gran likes to bake and better still she lets them help. They will pull up a chair and help create the latest culinary masterpieces.
Check out the tried and tested recipes in this section. Some even have reviews from the lucky tasters
Todays try out recipe was an Espresso Nut Tray Bake. This was taken from Womans Weekly Best Of - Our favourite Cakes. I adapted it and used gluten free self raising flour and a teaspoon of Xanthan Gum instead of the normal Self Raising Flour
It was delicious
I decide I really do need to clear up some of the cookery books I have and send some that I have not used for ages to charity shop.
Whilst rummaging around in a big box of books I come across this small booklet, held together with brown tape, and have no idea where I might have picket it up from.
It is titled Queensland Country Womens Association - Morella Branch – Slice Recipes
It is very old but gives no date as to when it may have been produced, and looks to be typed out on an old typewriter. It has lots of recipes from various different women that I am assuming belonged to the Queensland Country Womens Association. Nookie Durack, Sue Heussler, Jean Mims, Pam Marsh, Colleen Henrick, Nola Bloodworth to name a few.
On impulse I decided to try out the Cherry and Walnut Slice by Robyn Kinane. I used Gluten Free Flour as my daughter is coeliac and the recipe turned out delicious and was soon all gone. So wherever you are Robyn Kinane, hats off to you, you must have been a very good cook !! .
